Raising The Village

BRANDING, IDENTITY, WEB, PRINT

Raising The Village aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and work alongside with last-mile villages to end extreme poverty. They construct schools and wells or come up with innovative solutions like bee-hive fences to keep elephants from trampling crops. In short, they do whatever it takes to help a village succeed and become self-sustainable.

Developing the visual language to represent this organization was a dream. It’s modern and earthy with some grit. This is a passion project and one of the reasons why I became a full-time freelancer. I have to say, it’s been fulfilling to see this ‘little engine that could,’ make a lasting impact.

NOTES

The people and the country of Africa are beautiful. I visited Uganda in 2011 to see the projects first-hand and to meet the villagers. They are the embodiment of what it means to live simply; such spirit and strength of character.

Designing the first iteration of RTV’s website in 2008 was my first foray in web design. It was satisfying to be able to right the “wrongs” of the first launch with the redesigning of the current site. Each village is represented with their own story and facts and coloured with beautiful photographs taken by Claudia Hung
