A LITTLE MORE

I’m a graduate of graphic design from the Ontario College of Art & Design (BDes, 2006). My home-base is Toronto, but seeing the world always gets a “let’s go!” from me. I believe good design communicates and involves a response, whether it be curiosity, warm-fuzzies or even rage. My background is in print design but in recent years, I’ve found myself delving into a world of design that’s off the printed page.

Okay, now that the formalities are out of the way, here’s a little bit more about me.

My first interaction with design came in elementary school when my teacher was teaching us calligraphy. I picked up the skill fairly quickly and mastered it, well as good as any nine-year-old could, leading him to declare that I should choose a profession as a letterer. I thought it meant I would be painting store signs all my life. Which, to be honest, didn’t sound like much fun to me back then.

Fast forward a decade or two and I still find my daily playmates to be letterforms. Whether it be in designing an annual report, logo, webpage or magazine. Letters are quite slick, they respect each other’s personal space but also friendly enough to get in close and put the moves on when the feeling’s right. I appreciate that.

Which leads me to one of my life’s ambitions, also involving letters, to be a National Spelling Bee champ.
